After a break over the holiday season Pahiatua’s Regent cinema will recommence regular screenings next week with the animated Disney movie, Frozen 2, opening on Thursday January 23. In Frozen 2, Elsa the Snow Queen hears a mysterious voice call out to her. She decides to leave Arendelle with her friends Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven to travel to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond her kingdom. Rated PG Opening at the Regent on January 30 is the latest adaptation of the classic novel Little Women. Based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, and set in the aftermath of the American civil war, it tells the timeless and timely story of the March sisters — four young women each determined to live life on her own terms. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March. Saoirse Ronan. Rated G. The long-awaited big screen version of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s smash-hit stage musical Cats will open on Friday, January 31, at the Regent. It tells of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who must decide yearly which one will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new Jellicle life. Starring James Corden, Ray Winstone, Judi Dench, Rebel Wilson, Idriss Elba, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Hudson. Rated G. A treat is in store for Andre´ Rieu fans on Waitangi day week-end as the “King of Waltz” Andre´ Rieu presents a special concert just for cinema-goers from his castle in Maastricht, Holland to celebrate his 70th birthday. During the celebratio­n, Andre´ will talk about his life and music; from growing up in a musical family, his church choir days, his marriage, the Johann Strauss Orchestra, the amazing success of The Second Waltz and his recordbrea­king world tours. There will be two screenings of the concert at the Regent on Saturday 8 and Sunday February 9 at 2pm. Rated G. Further attraction­s in February at the Regent will include one of the most highly anticipate­d movies of 2020, the World War I drama 1917, also the family fantasycom­edy Dolittle, the World War II drama Midway and the inspiring NZ documentar­y, Helen Kelly: Together.
