Exciting fixtures mark return of Caf Inter-club competition
FOLLOWING the successful conclusion to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, this week marks an exciting return to CAF inter-club action as the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League resumes today.
Africa’s premier club competitions, the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, are approaching end of the group stages, with teams eyeing spots in the knockout phases of the respective competitions.
The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League kicks off the blockbuster weekend with defending champions Al Ahly away to Ghana’s Medeama FC, while Al Hilal welcomes Petro de Luanda to Sudan in a simultaneous 16h00 fixture.
Later in the evening, Asec Mimosas will be looking to draw inspiration from the Elephants’ recent success when they welcome Tanzania’s Simba SC to Abidjan.
Tomorrow, Pyramids have an uphill task of getting a result in Lubumbashi when they face TP Mazembe in what will be a tightly contested affair.
Later in the evening, the high-flying Mamelodi Sundowns will be in action in Mauritania against tournament debutants Nouadhibou.
Wydad AC, who are battling for form in the competition this season, travel south for an interesting tie against Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy, who stunned them in their backyard in the opening group match. The former champions languish at the bottom of the group with a single win from four outings and know that anything less than a victory could spell the end of their campaign.
The weekend’s action will culminate in a battle up north as two Tunisian giants face each other in an epic duel between ES Sahel and ES Tunis. -
