Colin Peake and his brother Steven emerged victorious in the men’s pairs category of the national bowling tournament, held over the weekend in the capital.

Bianca Lewis and her sister Diana Viljoen reigned supreme in the ladies’ pairs section.

The event took place at the TransNamib Greens and was an open tournament that drew 80 participants from across the nation as well as a team from Pretoria, South Africa.

Speaking to this publication, the Namibia Bowling Association’s (NBA) PRO Michelle Crawford expressed her satisfaction with the number of participants who came out to compete.

Crawford elaborated on the structure of the competition, explaining that it was a national bowls week and an open competition in which individual members entered teams.

“We had about 80 participants, which was awesome for us. We are extremely happy and want to thank everyone who took part. It shows how important the sport is,” she said.

The mixed pairs competition was fiercely contested, with Colin Peake and Amy Human ultimately emerging as the winners.

Willie Esterhuizen won the veteran men’s category, with Karl Hartman coming in as the runner-up.

Meanwhile, Truda Meaden emerged as the winner in the veteran women’s category.

In the men’s single category, Chris du Preez was crowned the winner, while JamieLee Lawrence took home the top prize in the female singles category.

Looking ahead, Crawford said that the NBA would now focus on preparing for the upcoming international competitions lined up for later this year.

“We have a world bowls competition coming up, which I think is the next big event for us this year, and we will turn our attention to ensuring we are prepared enough. This tournament was a great test for us to gauge ourselves,” she said.
