Funeral undertaker implicated in tombstone theft

WINDHOEK - Three suspects aged between 24 and 32 years were arrested on Friday after allegedly returning a gravestone that was stolen in May this year at tGolgotha cemetery in the capital.

It is further alleged the security guard on duty saw the three suspects in a private vehicle entering the cemetery before placing the stolen tombstone back at its original spot.

According to a crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force

(NamPol) on Monday, the driver of the vehicle is a funeral undertaker.

The value of the recovered tombstone is N$13 000, while another missing tombstone is valued N$5 000 and police investigat­ions in the matter continue.

In a separate incident, two suspects between the ages of 48 and 60 were on Friday arrested after being found in possession of controlled wildlife products at around 15h00 at Nkurenkuru in Kavango West.

It is alleged that the two suspects were apprehende­d after they were found in possession of a pangolin, valued at N$50 000, during a police search.

Both suspects are in police custody and are expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

In a separate incident, two suspects were arrested after they were found dealing in crack cocaine and cannabis on Friday at around 11h30 in Swael Street, Kuisebmund in Walvis Bay.

The two suspects, a 35-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, were arrested when they were found with five crack cocaine parcels, one half-moon crack cocaine parcel and one cannabis parcel during a police operation. .
