Safety of tourists coming in winter should be ensured

- By B.GEGEE

The Tourism Research-2023 academic conference was held on November 30 at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum. On this occasion, President of the Mongolian Tourism Association, Dr. D.Gantumur gave information. He said, “Prices of goods, products and services are increasing. Along with this, the prices of the tourism industry continue to rise. Tourists see Mongolia as expensive. It is more important to pay attention to how the market and the buyer see us and from what angle they judge us. For example, questions such as, does one visitor have the impression to come to Mongolia again or not and how much do tourists buy Mongolian products, should be evaluated with other economic, social, and cultural measures. We need to look at the benefits to the economy rather than just being satisfied with the number of tourists.”

Then he continued, “After the pandemic, the flow of tourists has increased rapidly. The most important thing turned out to be the price of a trip to Mongolia. The price of a three-day trip for Korean tourists has dropped dramatically. “It has many positive and negative consequences. Increasing the price of tourism in Mongolia is not the main thing, but the return should be high. The safety of tourists during their stay in Mongolia is a separate thing. There are reports that some tourists who came to Mongolia this year were intentionally or accidentally injured, had an accident, or died. Behind this, a professional company must coordinate many factors such as drivers, guides, interpreters, liability issues, and insurance.”

D.Gantumur pointed out that the marketing and cycle of the service should be optimized. Festivals focus on the number of tourists. The decentralization marketing policy of this festival is important. Representatives of various industries spoke about winter tourism. So why should tourists come to Mongolia in winter and what is safe? He assumed that being safe starts with not getting cold and not just theft. There is a need to work in the direction of cooperation between the government and the private sector.
