Book Launch: Time of Heaven

The American Corner will host the official launch of “The Time of Heaven”, the English version of former President P.Ochirbat’s memoir, published by the Mongolia Society.

Translation into English was completed by Ch.Udaanjargal and Leland Rogers, with edits by Peter Marsh. This book traces P.Ochirbat’s path from rural Mongolia to the highest political office in Mongolia and explores the complex issues of democracy, the legacy of socialism, citizenship, ethics, and the responsibilities of government to its people.

Ambassador Pamela Slutz (Mongolia 2003-2006) of the Mongolia Society and President P.Ochirbat will both attend the event.

Explore beautiful landscapes in the Altai Mountains while enjoying this year’s Golden Eagle Festival, which celebrates the Golden Eagle as well as the hunters’ traditional culture.

Historically, nomadic Kazakhs have depended on the Golden Eagles for hunting, and the organizer of the festival Berkut Association was founded to preserve this proud tradition and protect the Berkut.

Eagle hunters from around regions gather to test their finely trained birds in singular contests of speed and agility during the couple of days the festival is held. During the festival, you can also see some Kazakh Traditional Horse Games like “Bush Kushi” (Try to take out from each other the goat skin on horseback), “Kiss a woman on horseback”, “Pick up coins from the ground on horseback” and others. In the evening, Kazakh Concert is held to promote some traditional songs and music.
