The Guinness World Record for the largest Mongolian ger was renewed by T.Amartuvshin in Khatanbulag soum of Dornogovi Province. Construction of the project began in May 2017 and the creators received the official certification on August 9 this year. Measurements of the ger is 28.81 meters in diameter and 9.57 meters in height. The ger was made by Anchin Otog LLC, T.Amartuvshin, D.Damsraiselnen, and Morigen (China) for the purpose of showing Mongolia’s nomadic lifestyles to foreign and domestic tourists.

The massive ger has the capacity to hold 500 people. Due to how it would be difficult for people to enter and leave, a door was constructed at each side. The toono (opening and frame on top of a ger) has four bagana (pillars) holding it up where traditional gers have two and the uni (poles of a ger which make up the roof) is 11.3 meters long. In total, 1,800 meters of felt was used as the ger had two coverings.

Manufacturing of the ger was completed in September 2017, three months since iits construction started. Fifteen people were involved in making the parts. The makers noted that the ger required an entirely new design and material to accommodate the large size.

In October 2017, the ger was transported from Ulaanbaatar to Dornogovi Province, and when weighed, it was around 26 tons.

Total assembly of the parts took about six, says D.Damsraiselnen. According to him, though Anchin Otog LLC worked efficiently for the ger to be recorded in the Guinness Records, it still took a lengthy amount of time as specialists had to come to Mongolia for the measurements and inspection of the material.
