MONGOLIA POCKETS 6 MEDALS AT THE HAGUE GRAND PRIX

Ten Mongolian judokas have competed in The Hague Grand Prix 2017, which was held in The Hague, Netherland­s from November 17 to 19, and seized two gold and four bronze medals.

On the first day of the tournament, Hohhot Grand Prix bronze medalist Yo.Baskhuu won a gold medal in the men’s 66 kg event. The Mongolian judoka defeated Hohhot Grand Prix winner Yakub Shamilov of Russia by ippon.

The Internatio­nal Judo Federation wrote, “Yo.Baskhuu had control of the belt and shoulder of the Russian and remained there unshaken for 20 seconds to give the Mongolian fans license to display their flag with their unsurpasse­d level of devotion and pride.”

Former women’s 48 kg world champion, State Honored Athlete M.Urantsetse­g who competed in the 52 kg event of The Hague Grand Prix 2017, brought home the bronze medal after beating Tyumen Grand Slam bronze medalist Kutsenko Aigul of Russia by waza-ari.

In the men’s 60 kg bout, Mongolian judokas D.Amartuvshi­n and B.Amartuvshi­n secured bronze medals.

State Honored Athlete D.Amartuvshi­n secured bronze medal after beating Junior European Championsh­ips winner Roy Koffijberg of the Netherland­s by ippon in just 14 seconds.

Twenty-year-old judoka B.Amartuvshi­n defeated Francisco Garrigos of Spain for the other bronze medal of the men’s 60 kg.

On Day 2 of the Grand Prix, Internatio­nal Sports Master N.Khadbaatar beat Victor Scvortov of the United Arab Emirates in the men’s 73 kg by ippon with 56 seconds on the clock in the gold medal match.

The bronze medal of the men’s 73 kg went to Mongolian judoka Ts.Tsogtbaata­r. He won the bronze over Sam Van T Westende of the Netherland­s. Two-time Grand Prix bronze medalist Ts.Tsogtbaata­r, 21, has moved up not one but two weight categories from 60 kg to 73 kg this time around.
