- By T.BAYARBAT

During Tuesday’s meeting of the parliamentary Budget Standing Committee, MPs approved the additional financing of 9.06 million USD for the Market and Pasture Management Project.

The International Fund for Agricultural Devel- opment (IFAD) is funding the project, which aims to promote the business interests of herders and to reduce poverty amongst herders.

The project will provide financial support to 120 herders in 89 soums in Arkhangai, Bulgan, Govi-Altai, Khuvsgul, and Khentii provinces, and promote their business interests.

Building over 80 wells for herders and 10 ponds to improve pasture and grassland manage- ment; and opening a needlework and aaruul, farms for female herders have been included in the project.

During the meeting, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry P.Sergelen pointed out that 1.4 million MNT for producing products and 2.1 million MNT for the project’s management have been budgeted and that the ministry is working to implement the project by spending more of the project’s funds on herders.

Minister P.Sergelen emphasized that he expects to discuss the project for herders with the IFAD’s leadership when he visits the fund to vote in its presidential election, which will take place on February 14 and 15 in Rome, Italy.

The standing committee also agreed to submit the decision to the Security and Foreign Policy Standing Committee for further review.
