Ferrari 250 GT SWB to participate in Malta Classic

-

A rare Ferrari 250 GT SWB will participate in the 2016 edition of the Malta Classic which will be held between 6 and 9 October.

The 250 GT Berlinetta SWB, of which only 176 examples were built, was one of the most notable GT racers of its time. In 2004, Sports Car International placed the 250 GT SWB seventh on a list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s and Motor Trend Classic placed it fifth on a list of the 10 Greatest Ferraris of all time.

The particular Ferrari participating in the Malta Classic was a prototype T Ferrari produced in 1960 and loaned to the Scuderia Serenissima race team for test use. After it was returned to Ferrari, it was sold to a famous German racing driver Wolfgang Seidel who used it for hill climbs and circuit racing. Among the many races and concours it has won are this year’s Monte Pellegrino and the Vernasca Silver Flag.

This fascinating car is being brought to Malta from Switzerland by Egon Hofer. This is Mr Hofer’s second year participating in the Malta Classic. In 2007, Mr Hofer brought his Maserati Tipo 63 Birdcage to participate in the first Grand Prix event held in Malta.

The Malta Classic (formerly the Mdina Grand Prix) is a four-day classic car event celebrating vintage style against an historic backdrop. This year, the Malta Classic welcomes over 60 participants from England, Italy, France, Malta and Switzerland with such classics as a 1953 Alfa 1900c Sprint by Touring, a 1935 Talbot PL4, a 1954 Jaguar XK150, a 1960 Triumph TR3 A, a 1935 BSA Scout, a 1938 Alvis 12/70 Special, a 1934 Riley TT Sprite, a 1927 Chevrolet Special, a 1963 Porsche 356 Coupe and a 1974 Mini Marcos.
