President visits Istrina Piggy Bank Coin Counting Process

-

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca accompanied by Mr Edgar Preca visited Bank of Valletta’s Head Office in Sta Venera to view the sorting and counting of coins collected through the L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign. The President and Mr Preca were greeted by the bank’s chairman Deo Scerri and the chief Executive officer Mario Mallia.

“Now in its 14th edition, the LIstrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign is a close collaboration between the bank and the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation,” said Scerri. “This last phase of the campaign involved BOV employees and MCCFF volunteers working together as they sort the donations collected from every primary and secondary school across Malta and Gozo. Having said that, it is also the phase that gives us the greatest satisfaction, as we see the donations add up.”

“This campaign has become synonymous with Bank of Valletta. Through it, we involve the youngest in our society, thereby ensuring that the spirit of solidarity remains alive in our society for years to come,” said Mallia. “This campaign is tangible proof that every little donation counts, as over €1.3m were presented to LIstrina since it was launched.”

He concluded his intervention by thanking Mr Preca for his invaluable contribution towards promoting this campaign. In fact Mr Preca visits around 25 primary and secondary schools around Malta and Gozo between October and December.

“L-Istrina is each and every one of us. This is reflected in the current campaign Jien l-Istrina,” said the President, while thanking Bank of Valletta and the volunteers for their dedication and incessant efforts throughout the year.

The President then proceeded to personally sign over 300 copies of Tisjir bil-Qalb, which were purchased by BOV employees through a drive co-ordinated by the bank to assist in the L-Istrina effort.
