St.Andrew’s in third place

- VICTOR CIANGURA St. Andrew’s San Gwann

Following this game St Andrew are in third place on 34 points from 17 games in this penulti‐ mate game of the League while San Ġwann are relegated to Sec‐ tion B for next season as they only won 8 points from same number of games. Sliema W are also relegated as they won only 7 points from same number of games.

The game was hardly a minute old when St Andrew forged ahead as Jack Camilleri scored with a low drive from inside the area past San Ġwann keeper Matthias Mifsud after being served from a long throw‐in from the left flank.

San Ġwann created three ac‐ tions in a row. Bjorn Caruana served Jerome Grima in the area but he missed the upright. Liam Micallef released Caruana in the area and St Andrew keeper Se‐ bastian Mifsud cleared the ball away to throw‐in with his foot as he came out of his charge and Luca Rudyard Mifsud was fouled on the right flank and the ball was cleared away from the free kick by Dayzen Grech.

Between the 20th and 22nd minute St Andrew scored two goals to make it 3‐0. Ben Gaerty served Camilleri with a square pass on the edge of the area who scored with a low hard drive and Gerge Delia released Adam Vella in the area who netted with a low drive, and in other action by St Andrew Camilleri was fouled on the right flank and after Vella's free kick Dominik Diange headed out from inside the area, and the last action before the break was created by San Ġwann as Jamie Grima served Caruana in the area but Mifsud foiled him with a timely sortie.

Most of the actions after the re‐ sumption were created by St An‐ drew. After a run down the right flank by Vella he crossed the ball in the area to Benjamin Bonello Ghio who thumped the bar with Mifsud beated with the ball being cleared away. A flag kick by Vella was cleared away with difficulty. George Delia released Vella in the area and a defender cleared the ball to a corner which was taken by Brincat and Gianluca Cauchi drove out from inside the area.

St Andrew resumed with their pressing and another two ac‐ tions were created. Vella served Cauchi with a long square pass on the left flank and as he tried his luck from the distance he missed the upright by inches and Cauchi served Brincat Winters in the area and headed home but the point was disallowed as he was ruled off‐side.

In search of a consolation goal San Ġwann mounted two ac‐ tions. Liam Micallef won a loose ball outside the area but he drove well over the bar and the same player was then fouled out‐ side the area and Caruana drove slightly over the bar from the free kick.

A minute before the end of nor‐ mal time the score became 4‐0 as Camilleri served Bonello Ghio in the area and he scored with a hard and high shot.
