KUALA LUMPUR: Police said 27 of the 301 revellers who were fined for breaching the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) at a private party at a club here last Sunday tested positive for drugs.

Brickfields police chief ACP Amihizam Abdul Shukor said urine tests were conducted on 131 people, with 27 of them, comprising 24 Malaysians and four foreigners, testing positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and cannabis.

He said the 27 were remanded for further investigations.

The private party, which went past midnight, came to a halt after police raided the venue.

Summonses totalling RM1.56 million were issued to two organisers of the party and 301 revellers, who were made up of locals and foreigners.

The raid was conducted after the organisers and revellers were found to have breached the SOP set in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Amihizam said 216 of the individuals who were fined were foreigners, comprising 161 men and 55 women. They were arrested for various offences, including those under Immigration laws, and were taken to the Brickfields district police headquarters for further investigations.

Amihizam said the organisers of the party were issued with a RM50,000 fine, while 87 locals and the 216 foreigners were issued with summonses totalling RM435,000 and RM1.08 million, respectively.

“Our checks showed that the individuals had gathered at a place where it is difficult to maintain social distancing. They failed to observe the SOP set by the National Security Council.”

Amihizam said 128 police officers and personnel were involved in the operations.

Amihizam said the public may report any breach of the SOP in the district to Brickfields police at 03-2297 9222 or KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
