Together taking football to the fore

-

THE memorandum of understanding that was singed in March between leading ecommerce platform Shopee and the Malaysia Football League (MFL) has yielded great results.

As the title sponsor of Piala FA Malaysia 2018, Shopee stood as a platform for MFL to market and sell Piala FA and unifi Liga Super Malaysia tickets to e-commerce site’s 10 million users in Malaysia. This led to ticket sales that far surpassed initial expectations of 5,000, resulting in 20,423 e-tickets sold as at July 5.

“Aside from the strong growth trajectory, Shopee continues our brand promise to empower local businesses and communities. On top of the sponsorship, we assisted MFL and local teams to chalk up an extra RM1.5 million from ticket sales and activities held together with MFL and local players,” said Shopee regional managing director Ian Ho.

“Like all Malaysians, Shopee’s love for football burns bright. From the increased convenience to the enhanced presence of the sport, we believe that the socio-economic impact of this partnership will certainly go a long way.”

Transforming the local league has always been one of MFL’s goals, explained the league’s CEO Kevin Ramalingam, who is happy with the progress and the partnership.

“We look forward to working more closely with Shopee,” Ramalingam concluded.

Although the Shopee Piala FA Malaysia 2018 ended with Pahang’s win against Selangor during the final match on July 7, the partnership is far from close to an end, as Shopee and MFL’s recently launched official MFL merchandise store offers all sorts of football merchandise that can be used on and off the field.

In line with MFL’s vision to promote the love for football among Malaysian youth and drive engagement between players and fans, football clinics involving top local football stars and coaches are being organised by Shopee. For updates on these clinics, follow Shopee’s Facebook page.
