> He says Parliament assaulters absent in identification line-up

PETALING JAYA: Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad has expressed his dismay over an identification parade at the Sentul district police station where he was asked to identify those who had tried to assault him on Parliament grounds last year.

Khalid complained that none of the main suspects in the case were in the line-up on Jan 10 at the station.

“The son of the deputy minister was not present, two to three individuals in chequered shirts and those who shouted the ‘takbir’ were also not there,” he told reporters at Amanah headquarters yesterday.

A son of Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman – the Pasir Salak MP and agriculture deputy minister – was among those identified to be allegedly involved in the attack against Khalid in the Nov 24 incident.

It was triggered after Khalid and Tajuddin had a heated exchange in Parliament a few days before the attack occurred, following an alleged sexist remark made by the latter.

Khalid said there were YouTube videos and Parliament’s CCTV footage that could be used by the authorities to assist in the investigation, but nothing much had been done until he was called by police on Jan 10.

He said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia must take the necessary action against Tajuddin, to avoid recurrence of such an incident. The attackers were said to be Tajuddin’s guests.

Meanwhile, City Crime Investigation chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said some of the suspects mentioned by Khalid were not called to the line-up as they had been questioned and their identities were already known. He said police had no influence over whom a person identifies at an identification parade.

“We just identify the possible suspects and let the people involved pick them out. We have no influence over who they choose,” he told theSun.

Some of those who were called for the identification parade may have altered their looks since the incident.

He said some may have changed their hairstyle or some may look different from a different angle or distance.

Rusdi assured Khalid that investigations are still ongoing into the incident.
