Homebuyer drives away in luxury as group celebrates anniversary

FORTUNE smiled on homebuyers during Hunza Group’s 45th anniversary lucky draw.

They walked away with thousands of ringgit worth of prizes after a nail-biting draw ceremony held at the developer’s Penang International Commercial City (PICC) sales gallery in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

Hitting the jackpot was customer service assistant manager Christine Saw who won the grand prize of a brand new Mercedes-benz C200 Avantgarde.

“Words cannot describe how excited I am. I came here telling myself that I’d be content just winning something.

“I never imagined I’d be going home with a new car,” she said after receiving the keys.

Saw said she almost did not attend the draw as she had forgotten about it.

She rushed over after getting a last-minute reminder from a Hunza Group employee.

In a further twist, her entry was not the one initially drawn for the grand prize.

Another buyer’s entry had come up, but because the buyer had already won an earlier prize, the entry was ineligible. Saw’s name was subsequently picked.

The lucky draw was open to purchasers of Hunza’s Alila2,

Muze @ PICC and Mekarsari Unggul projects, with each receiving multiple entries based on the value of their units.

A total of 300 buyers were in the running, with over 1,000 entries going into the ballot box. There were 28 prizes worth around Rm1mil up for grabs.

When an entry was pulled out, the buyer was given a choice to either accept the current prize, or reject it and hope their other entries would be drawn for a bigger prize later on.

Some winners turned down smaller voucher prizes in hopes of snagging one of the cars, but were left to rue their decision after leaving empty handed.

Others quickly accepted but also had a tinge of regret after seeing their names drawn again for a bigger prize, which they were then ineligible for.

Besides the Mercedes-benz, there was also a second prize of a BYD Atto 3 electric vehicle and a third prize of RM40,000 in Gurney Paragon Mall vouchers.

Two sets of RM20,000 in Harvey Norman vouchers were the fourth prizes, while three sets of RM5,000 in Gurney Paragon Mall vouchers were fifth prizes.

The 20 remaining prizes were RM3,000 of the mall’s vouchers each.

Hunza Group executive director Khor Tze Ming said the event marked the culmination of their 45th anniversary campaign which started last year.

Moving forward, she said the group’s main trajectory revolved around PICC.

“The end goal is to create a landmark destination for people to invest, work, live and enjoy leisure pursuits.

“Sales of Phase 2B of the development, Senze @ PICC have been encouraging even before its official launch.

“Planning works for Phase 2A, the Commercial Hub with a mall, office tower, global business services hub and international branded hotel are ongoing with physical works expected to commence in 2025.”

She said there would be major launches for Senze @ PICC and Phase 16 of Mekarsari Unggul in the upcoming property showcase in Gurney Paragon Mall from May 24 to June 3.

Khor also announced that the completion of the Treeo affordable housing project was on track to start next month.

This will be followed by two more developments in the same price bracket.

Present to witness the draw ceremony was state agrotechnology, food security and cooperative development committee chairman Fahmi Zainol.

Also present were Hunza Group founder and executive advisor Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong, company directors and senior management.
