SUBANG JAYA: At the poignant remembrance event for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the hearts of family members were filled with newfound hope as they embraced the prospect of reigniting the search for their loved ones aboard the ill-fated plane.

As the incident of the missing plane enters its 10th year, family members from Malaysia, China, Australia and other countries attended this year’s event, filled with a sense of remembrance.

Those unable to attend in person participated through recorded short videos.

Some family members of Chinese passengers said their reason for being present was to learn more about the search details and the Malaysian government’s intentions regarding the search.

The event featured recitations of poems like 10 Years On and We Have Loved, a ballet dance titled Hope and a performance of Teresa Teng’s song Wo Zhi Zai Hu Ni (I Only Care About You) by Tang Boon Chong. It also showcased debris from the plane, indicating where they were found.

During the screening of videos featuring MH370 passengers, many family members were visibly moved.

The son of a flight attendant on MH370, Hareez Danni Junaidi, 21, said: “When my father went missing, I was only 11. I still hope to find the answers and unravel the mystery. I hope with modern technology, we can increase the chances of finding the answers quickly.”

Intan Maizura Othaman, 44, whose husband Mohd Hazrin Mohamed Hasnan, was a cabin crew member, said even though 10 years have passed, she still yearns to uncover the truth.

Kamariah Sarip expressed relief that the government is willing to resume the search.

She said she still has difficulties sleeping whenever she thinks about her son Zamani Muhammad Razahan and daughter-in-law Norliakmar Hamid.

“They were supposed to be in Beijing for their honeymoon but they never made it back,” she said tearfully.

Li Er You and his wife Liu Shuang Feng flew here from China to attend the event.

“We hope that the search efforts will not stop,” said Liu.

“Even if it takes 10 or 20 years, we will not give up seeking the truth,” said Bai Shuan Fu, a 56-year-old Chinese national whose wife, Han Ai Chin, was on board the flight.
