Muslims welcome new year under strict SOP
Muslims in the country ushered the Islamic New Year 1442 in the new normal due to the Covid-19 pandemic with states holding events to mark the occasion under strict adherence to the recovery movement control order standard operating procedure (SOP).
The celebration, which began on Wednesday at the national level here, was graced by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak also held the celebration on Wednesday, complying with the SOP which included attendees maintaining physical distancing and wearing face masks.
In JOHOR, the state-level celebration was held at the Iskandar Islamic Centre yesterday where Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said propelling prosperity through Islam had become the new vision and mission of the state in developing the nation through the act of inclusive kindness and strengthening the teaching of Islam.
Former Johor mufti Datuk Mohd Tahrir Samsuddin was presented the Johor Tokoh Maal Hijrah award which included a certificate, RM10,000 cash and prizes worth RM2,000.
The 71-year-old, who is now the adviser of the Johor Tahfiz association and Johor Islamic Religious Council, said he would continue to share his knowledge.
The Saudara Kita award went to Nur Salina Pei Abdullah while the Maal Hijrah Orang Asli award was presented to Yusri Abdullah.
Salina and Yusri each received RM2,000 in cash, a certificate and prizes worth RM1,000.
In PAHANG, Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah
Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah attended the state-level celebration held at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall.
The modest celebration themed “Ummah Rabbani, Negara Harmoni” saw Tengku Hassanal presenting the Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award to former Pahang PAS commissioner Mohd Baqi Othman in appreciation of his contribution to Islamic education in the state.
Mohd Baqi, 80, the founder of two religious schools in the state – Sungai Gau in Temerloh and Kampung Lanting in Chenor, Maran – was Pahang PAS chief for six years from 1993.
In TERENGGANU, Kemaman Supply Base board chairman Hussin Ismail, 65, was presented with the state Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award in recognition of his contribution through social welfare activities.
He received RM10,000, a sponsored umrah package, a set of clothing and a certificate.
The Tokoh Imam Cemerlang award was presented to Mohamad Ghani, who is imam of Kampung
Bukit Kandis mosque in Kuala Nerus, while Abdul Rahman Ishak, who works at the Kampung Kubang Bujuk mosque in Manir, received the Bilal Cemerlang award.
