Supermax donates 500,000 gloves
Manufacturer answers call for supplies to help all frontliners
PETALING JAYA: Rubber gloves manufacturer Supermax Corp Bhd has answered the call of Star Frontliners Initiative for supplies to help medical professionals fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company donated 500,000 rubber gloves to the initiative launched by Star Media Group (SMG) under the Star Foundation.
The supply of nitrile medical gloves will be put to immediate use by healthcare professionals who continue to put their lives at risk while battling this coronavirus outbreak.
SMG and Star Foundation chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow received the donation from Supermax group founder and president Datuk Seri Stanley Thai at Menara Star yesterday.
Also present was Supermax co-founder and vice-president Datin Seri Cheryl Tan.
Fu expressed gratitude to Supermax for supporting the initiative and said the gloves would be distributed to hospitals all over the country, with a large portion going to Sabah and Sarawak.
“This is a time when we can see Malaysians coming together to fight the virus and we are happy to see individual Malaysians and corporations alike stepping forward to do their part for the country.
“This is also to show our appreciation to all frontliners, the medical professionals and those in law enforcement.
“Malaysians must be united to win the war against Covid-19,” added Fu.
Thai said: “We are happy to participate in the Star Frontliners Initiative by donating half a million gloves for Star Foundation to distribute to hospitals, along with other types of personal protective equipment (PPE).
“While Supermax also has its own initiative #MalaysiaBebasCovid19, the mission is the same, which is to provide PPE to the frontliners and hospitals that need them the most.”
He said Supermax had distributed over five million gloves to date in supporting the Covid-19 fight in Malaysia and three million to China in the early stages of the outbreak.
“Our operations team has been very helpful in providing timely deliveries to hospitals that are in urgent need of these supplies.
“We hope the movement control order (MCO) will help flatten the curve but if the Health Ministry decides to extend the MCO, we will also extend our campaign and continue to provide more medical gloves to the frontliners,” he said.
SMG had pledged RM1mil to kickstart the Star Frontliners Initiative, a fund to help provide essential medical supplies for the nation’s battle against Covid-19.
