KAJANG: Umno Youth exco member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris or Papagomo has been remanded for three days until tomorrow in connection with the alleged assault of Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman.

Kajang Deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Sabri Abdullah said police also arrested another man in relation to the incident. He was later released on bail.

“We would also appreciate any information from witnesses who saw the incident to help us with the investigation,” he said here yesterday.

Supt Mohd Sabri said 13 reports were lodged following the incident and investigation papers were filed under the Penal Code for rioting and voluntarily causing hurt as well as for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duties.

Papagomo was arrested in Setapak at 3pm on Sunday following a police report lodged by Syed Saddiq on Saturday.

Syed Saddiq claimed that he was walking to his car with three others after the candidates of the Semenyih by-election were announced.

He left the nomination centre at Dewan Sri Cempaka at about 11.05am when a group of Barisan Nasional supporters reportedly jeered at him.

The Youth and Sports Minister claimed that Papagomo suddenly cornered him from a different route. However, he said several policemen managed to control the situation.

Syed Saddiq also posted video clips of the incident on social media expressing his disappointment over the incident.

The clips showed what looked like a group of blue-clad individuals crowding Syed Saddiq, while his officers and police personnel intervened.

Separately, Supt Mohd Sabri said police also stopped a Barisan ceramah in Taman Pelangi Semenyih because the organisers did not have a permit.
