KUALA LUMPUR: The Inspector-General of Police has refuted claims that the police are “dragging their feet” over fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s murder investigation.

Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the police were in the midst of preparing for an inquest, which would begin tomorrow.

“We have been ordered by the Attorney General to prepare for the inquest.

“Those who feel that we are not taking the necessary action in the investigation might not understand the technical aspects of the legal process,” he told reporters after attending the Bukit Aman monthly assembly yesterday.

He was commenting on allegations of police inaction into the murder of Muhammad Adib.

Muhammad Adib was fatally injured while on duty during riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple on Nov 27.

He passed away on Dec 17. Meanwhile, Muhamad Fuzi said the task force formed to investigate the death of Teoh Beng Hock, an aide to DAP leader and then Selangor exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah, would present its findings to the Attorney General soon.

Teoh died while he was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in 2009.

On another matter, Mohamad Fuzi said Malaysia’s crime rate showed a 11.9% decline last year compared to the previous year.

He added that all 14 state police contingents showed a downward trend in the crime rate in 2018 compared to 2017.
