KUALA suspected LUMPUR: drug traffickers Five were arrested after trying to bribe a team of policemen from the Salak South police station.

Kpl Nik Faizul Nik Anis, L/ Kpl Mohd Norhisyam Mohd Zain and L/Kpl Jantan Meluda were patrolling near Jalan Yaakob Latiff in Cheras when they saw the suspects behaving suspiciously. They stopped the car that had two men and a woman inside.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon said the police personnel asked to check the MyKads of the occupants.

“As they were about to check the vehicle as well, one of the men handed over RM3,600 with the promise that his friends will bring an additional RM1,400 later,” he said.

The money was offered so the policemen would not check the bonnet, ACP Mohamed Mokhsein said.

Despite warning the suspects repeatedly, he said, they still handed over the cash.

“After 30 minutes, two other men arrived and handed the “promised” RM1,400.

“The three policemen did not waver, and after checking the bonnet found an array of drugs,” he said.

These included 1,700g of heroin powder, 700 pills, a weighing machine, scissors and a bottle of liquid.

“Further investigation led police to the suspects’ home at Batu 11, Cheras, where we seized 100g of drug powder and 150 pills,” he said.

The drugs were worth about RM20,000, he said. The four men, all 24, and the 21-year-old woman were remanded for seven days.

“We’re investigating them for the drug offence while the bribery offence is being handled by the Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission,” ACP Mohamed Mokhsein said.
