THE Carlsberg Golf Classic celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and the organisers are preparing for an event that will do justice to the occasion.

There are 34 qualifying rounds scheduled this season – 28 in Peninsular Malaysia, four in Sabah and two in Sarawak – starting on June 30 and ending on Oct 13.

“During this time we expect to host more than 3,200 amateur golfers,” said Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Lars Lehmann at the launch of the event at Palm Garden Golf Club in Putrajaya this week.

“This will all move towards the national finals on Oct 25, also at Palm Garden.”

The tournament’s silver jubilee will be celebrated as the “biggest and longest-running amateur golf tournament in Malaysia” with some RM2.6mil offered in prizes.

“The action will start at Kelab Sungai Petani in Kedah on June 30 and July 1, and the curtain will come down on the qualifiers at Saujana Golf & Country Club in Subang, Selangor, on Oct 13.

“But that is not all,” said Lehmann. “The hole-in-one prizes will include Mercedes Benz E-Class and C-class luxury sedans. This will be alongside numerous lucky draw prizes and novelty events.

“Twenty-five years is a significant milestone in any event or organistaion’s book,” added Lehmann.

“And for the Carlsberg Classic it represents unwavering support towards the game itself and the golf community as a whole.

“We have raised the bar this year with amazing prizes, fun activities with novelty shots onto the green and our brands of Carlsberg Smooth Draught and Somersby cider featured in the make-up of the tournament.

“The way we see the tournament this year, it will be nothing short of fun.”

Explaining the mechanics of the qualifiers, Lehmann added: “The gross and nett of the 34 legs will go home with prizes including premium timepieces from Titoni, Ogawa massage equipment, TaylorMade drivers, putters and golf bags, as well as VIP passes to Carlsberg Malaysia’s Shah Alam brewery.”

In another exercise to commemorate Carlsberg Classic’s 25th anniversary, the brewers are giving away a limited-edition golf cap for purchase of two buckets of Carlsberg Smooth Draught at participating golf clubs nationwide.

Golfers will also stand a chance to win Titoni timepieces, cartons of Carlsberg Smooth Draught and passes to visit the Carlsberg Lounge by snapping creative pictures with Carlsberg or Carlsberg Smooth Draught products at any of the golf clubs and uploading them to Facebook or Ins tag ram with the hash tags# car ls berg golfclassic and# probably the best.

Commenting on the support from the corporate sector, Lehmann said: “We have long-standing relationships with most of our tournament partners and we are grateful for their contributions over the years.”

The official partners of the Carlsberg Classic 2018 are Mercedes-Benz, Cutter & Buck, TaylorMade, Ogawa, Titoni, Mars Whisky, Saujana Hotels & Resorts, Sunplay, ParGolf and Gatorade.
