Selangor DAP gets one more state seat
KLANG: Selangor DAP is down to contest an additional state seat in the general election.
According to a Pakatan Harapan source, the party will field a candidate in Dusun Tua, in addition to defending its existing 15 state seats.
“The DAP will be giving that seat to one of its Malay candidates,” said the source.
Dusun Tua is currently held by PAS’ Razaly Hassan, who beat Umno’s Ismail Sani with a 4,071vote majority in 2013.
According to the source, Selangor seat negotiations among Pakatan’s four partner parties – PKR, DAP, Amanah and Pribumi – were finally sealed on Tuesday night.
Yesterday, state chiefs Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (PKR), Tony Pua (DAP), Izham Hashim (Amanah) and Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari (Pribumi) issued a joint media statement announc- ing the conclusion of the talks.
Azmin is also Selangor Pakatan chairman.
The source said the heated discussions finally came to an end because the general election has been called.
“Otherwise it would still be drag- ging on,’’ he said.
Under the agreement, PKR gets 21 seats, DAP 16, Amanah 10 and Pribumi, nine.
The source said PKR had to sacrifice its hope of contesting in more seats because of Pribumi. PKR will be contesting the same number of seats it did in the last election.
In the statement, the leaders said the seat allocation was done in line with the people’s best interests.
“We have finalised the allocations to provide excellent service to realise the people of Selangor’s aspirations,” said the statement.
