Kampar home for the needy gets RM30,000
Chairman: Donation solves 70% of our problems
KAMPAR: For years, it was a seemingly endless struggle for Peter Ho to fix the inexplicably damaged flooring tiles at the centre he serves at.
The chairman of the Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled Kampar centre and his dependents have to put up with uneven and broken tiles in the centre.
So far, the cause has remained unknown.
Not only does this problem pose a danger to the residents’ safety, it is also an expensive one to solve.
“It’s difficult for us. When we find enough money to fix one part, another part will start breaking,” said Ho.
He was grateful when he received RM30,000 donation from Star Foundation to solve the problem.
This was made possible after Deputy Finance Minister and Kampar MCA parliamentary seat candidate Datuk Lee Chee Leong highlighted the centre’s plight to the charitable arm of Star Media Group.
“I can say at least 70% of our problems can be solved.
“We need a lot of money to maintain this place and we promise to put this money to good use,” he said.
Set up in 2000, there are currently 13 residents in the daycare centre comprising children, youths and the elderly.
They are either school dropouts or people with special needs, including people with physical disabilities, mild hyperactivity, mild autism and learning disorders.
The centre charges a nominal fee of RM300 per month to help cover rent, water and electricity charges, and tuition and transport fees.
Star Media Group deputy chairman and Star Foundation board of trustees member Tan Sri Kuan Peng Soon was present to hand over the cheque on Thursday, witnessed by Lee.
Also present were MCA candidates for Malim Nawar and Keranji state seats, Chang Gwo Chyang and Daniel Wa.
