Disabled cyclists set to break national record in cycling tour
KUALA TERENGGANU: Participants of “Kayuhan Basikal Jelajah Malaysia”, a cycling tour by the disabled, are set to make it into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) by finishing a 1,505km tandem bicycle ride, which is the farthest distance for specialneeds cyclists.
Negri Sembilan Blind Sports Recreation Association president Shamsul Anuar Amat Kasi said the longdistance cycling ride started from Rembau, Negri Sembilan, on March 10 and would end in Port Dickson on March 25.
Shamsul Anuar, who is visually impaired, said the cycling event was organised as a show of solidarity in the development of the disabled in the country, particularly in sports and characterbuilding.
“The 16day cycling event shows the extent of Malaysian solidarity for the development of those with special needs,” he told Bernama when met at Masjid Tengku Tengah Zaharah, Kuala Ibai, here yesterday.
“The programme also focuses on the visually impaired as recordbreakers.”
He said the cycling expedition, which aimed to travel across the Titiwangsa Range today, would improve public perception towards the disabled community by showing them to be as capable as the ablebodied.
The tour is currently moving from Negri Sembilan to the east coast, before ending in Port Dickson.
