Three men injured in restaurant shooting incident

KUCHING: Three men were hurt in a shooting incident at a restaurant in Kuching City Mall Commercial Centre here.

Sarawak CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said a male suspect with a shotgun fired into the restaurant before fleeing in a silver Proton Waja just after midnight yesterday.

Dev said in a statement that the three wounded men were having a drink there at the time.

He added that a 47-year-old car repossessor was hit in the stomach and legs; a second car repossessor, 30, was injured in the left leg; and the third, a 42-year-old salesman, was hurt in the right leg.

“All three are friends and are warded at the Sarawak General Hospital,” he said, adding that an initial probe showed the suspect had fought with the victims earlier.

“The suspect had apparently created a scene at a worker’s hostel after a misunderstanding with his girlfriend.

“He was then warned by the hostel supervisor and the three victims not to create trouble before being asked to leave,” he said.

Dev said the incident was not gang-related and urged the public to remain calm.

“We are currently hunting the suspect down,” he said.

He said police are looking for Patrick Buddy Siam, 30, from Rumah Antas, Skrang, Sri Aman, to facilitate investigations.

“Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call the nearest police station.

“All information will be kept confidential,” he added. — Bernama
