RM350K raised for journalism scholarship
A total of RM350,927 in contributions have been collected to date for the Soo Ewe Jin Scholarship since it was established in April.
The scholarship, launched in honour of the late Soo Ewe Jin, is under the Star Education Fund as well as Yayasan Universiti Sains (USM) Malaysia.
Aimed at nurturing fresh talent in journalism, it supports one undergraduate every year pursuing a Bachelor in Communication (Journalism) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
The first Soo Ewe Jin Scholar, Adeline Gooi, received the inaugural award in September.
Ewe Jin was The Star’s executive editor and best known for his weekly column Sunday Starters, which touched the lives of many with its strong message of compassion, kindness and charity.
Many members of the public have responded generously, and contributions will continue to be received for the scholarship.
