Don’t buy into Opposition’s empty talk, Indians urged
KUALA LUMPUR: Indian voters should not buy into the Opposition's vetti pechu (empty talk) in the coming general election, the Prime Minister said.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Opposition leaders talked a good game, but failed to deliver on their promises.
“We must support those who are capable of getting things done and not base our judgment on political rhetoric,” he told some 2,100 delegates at the opening of the ninth Makkal Sakti annual general assembly here yesterday.
He also warned delegates that the Opposition aimed to bring the Government down through the politics of hate.
In contrast, Najib said, the Government had implemented socio economic programmes to uplift the Indian community.
“Never before in the nation’s history, where it is recorded in Parliament’s Hansard, has there been such an announcement of a special blueprint for Indians,” he said.
Najib added that the Government is committed to transforming the community from being estatebased to a modern, progressive one by emphasising education and allocating RM1bil for this purpose.
“If you want to change the fate of a community, you have to start with education,” he said.
Makkal Sakti president Datuk Seri R.S. Thanenthiran said the political party had 133,000 members and pledged support for Barisan Nasional in the coming polls.
