Team of hikers all for unity
Nature lovers say they support moves to bring Malaysians together
PETALING JAYA: Nature lovers and avid hikers from the Friends of Bukit Kiara (FoBK) will be walking alongside their fellow Malaysians in a show of unity to celebrate this year’s National Day.
So far, 12 members of the multiracial group have signed up for the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2017.
Among them is Chan How Nean, 55, who noted that besides peace, understanding and harmony among races, Malaysians should also treasure the rich variety of food, cultures and resources they enjoy.
“We must preserve our green lungs, especially our hills and mountains.
“We must also play an active part in protecting our country’s beautiful forests and keeping them pristine,” he said.
Azaha Ibrahim said he supports initiatives that aim to unify Malaysians.
“Malaysia is a melting pot of various races, religions and cultures. Shouldn’t we strive to maintain the racial harmony to make Malaysia an even better country?” asked the 50yearold.
Chan Kim Thai, 51, said her love for the country is what motivates her to participate in the walk.
FoBK cofounder Pola Singh said every Malaysian has a role to play in ensuring peace and stability in the country.
“We should do whatever it takes to prove our allegiance and loyalty to our beloved country, and this includes participating in multiracial activities such as this walk,” said Pola, 68, who is taking part in the walk for the second time.
He commended Star Media Group for organising the event, in collaboration with Eco World Development Group Bhd.
“It is such small but significant efforts by the corporate sector that will heighten awareness among Malaysians that national unity cannot be taken for granted.
“We need to continually build bridges of cooperation, understanding and trust.
“We are always stronger together and should continue to search for common ground and set our country to greater heights,” he added.
#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2017 will be held at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam on Aug 27.
The registration fee is RM80 for a family (two adults plus two children), RM40 for a participant aged above 12, and RM15 for a child (12 years and below).
