Counting the ca$h Chelsea bank in £150mil for Premier League title win

-

LONDON: Chelsea added plenty of coins to their English Premier League title gold with over £150mil (RM840mil) banked from the division’s prize pot.

The champagne-soaked Blues pocketed over £50mil (RM280mil) more than last season’s title winners Leicester after appearing on the box 28 times – only Liverpool got more screen time with 29.

All the 20 teams landed £84.4mil (RM473mil) from the TV rights pot with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United landing an added £ 30.4mil (RM170mil) while the Kop side played a game more and banked £31.4mil (RM176mil).

Even sorry Sunderland – who finished bottom and embarrassed themselves on the final day by booting the ball out of play for John Terry’s substitution – earned £99.9mil (RM559mil) and were only on TV eight times along with Hull.

Every position in the Premier League was worth £ 1.9mil (RM11mil) so the rock -bottom Sunderland took that down to the Championship with them on top of £13.6mil (RM76mil) for their eight miserable television showings.

Swansea – along with the tissue sellers at Stamford Bridge – made the big money on the final day of the season by jumping two positions and landing £3.8mil (RM21mil).

The Welsh side moved from 17th to 15th at the last knockings and will have pleased their accounts department with a late windfall.

Despite all these crazy figures sloshing around in the Premier League, one top-six side have allegedly planned to make the TV companies pay extra for interview access to their players and managers. – The Sun, London
