MCA leader condemns DAP over ‘shaky’ snap polls stance

-

KUALA LUMPUR: An MCA leader has labelled DAP “a party with no principles and irresponsible” for changing its stance on the proposed snap polls in Penang.

Its publicity bureau chairman Datuk Chai Kim Sen said that the snap polls saga clearly showed DAP merely survived on playing double standards and gaining public sympathy cards.

The snap polls were mooted after Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was charged with two counts of corruption on June 30, but were then put on hold after the party failed to convince PKR to go along.

“This shows that DAP is shaky in its stance and will keep playing double standards to gain public sympathy in order to cover its own mistakes,” said Chai.

He said Lim had attempted to portray himself as the “pathetic victim of a political attack” to justify the snap polls.

“When a Barisan Nasional leader is charged or DAP wins a lawsuit, they will say that the judicial system is fair.

“But when he (Lim) was charged, the party cried political victimisation and abused its power by making use of the people to save him,” he said.

Chai also hit out at Lim for dragging everyone into his political crisis to gain public sympathy.

Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said the proposal was a desperate act to seek political gains via the outpouring of public sentiment.

“DAP’s attempts to push for snap polls in a hasty and frivolous manner have created an unnecessary mess, tension and confusion among the people of Penang.”

Federal Territories MCA publicity bureau chairman Lau Chin Kok said it was irrational for DAP to hold snap polls to vent their frustrations against Barisan.

“If the polls are to be held for this purpose, why not dissolve the Selangor and Kelantan state legislative assemblies as well?

“Such an outrageous act of justifying the snap polls only showed that DAP was desperate to defend Lim and cover up his mistakes,” he said.
