SCORES of students who have just completed their secondary school education flocked to the KDU College Penang campus’s Open Day in Penang to enquire about courses offered by the college.

Some of the potential students who came with their family and friends, were spotted at the campus as early as 10am.

Among them was Najihah Ahmad Kamil, 18, who enquired about the culinary arts course. Accompanying her was her mother Siti Mahani Abdullah.

“I am thinking of pursuing this diploma as I love cooking. KDU College offers some of the best courses in tertiary education so I thought of checking them out here,” she said.

Meanwhile, Desmond Lee, 20, said he was still weighing his options between pursuing a business degree and a mass communication degree.

“I find the Open Day useful as there are lecturers and other staff members who are available to give on-the-spot information about the various courses being offered,” he said.

KDU College Penang chief executive officer and principal Dr Chong Beng Keok said the college was offering RM2mil worth of scholarship opportunities as well as a unique fee waiver of up to RM13,000 for SPM trial achievers with 11As and above.

“If their actual SPM results are better than that of their trial exams, the scholarship amount given will be increased but will not be decreased should the reverse happens.

“There are also no extra academic conditions to fulfil for these scholarship holders except to maintain a CGPA of 2.0 throughout the duration of their studies.

“They also do not need to go for an interview,” she said.

Dr Chong said the college estimated 400 walk-in enquiries during its Open Day for the Jan 2014 intake.

The Open Day was held for two weekends: Dec 14 and 15, yesterday and today.

A fee waiver of RM400 was also given to students who registered their courses at the Open Day while the first 20 students who registered on Dec 14 received a free iPod shuffle.

“There is also a free career test to help students choose their next education
