‘Encourage youth to help others’
KUALA LUMPUR: Community programmes must be geared towards encouraging young people to voluntarily care for those in need, said Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The Prime Minister’s wife, who is president of the Malaysian Girl Guides Association, said instilling such good practices would prevent selfishness among them.
“If such a positive culture is cultivated in every Girl Guides programme, it will strengthen the 1Malaysia concept and create a caring society,” she pointed out.
“I am confident that with this voluntary spirit, members will do whatever is necessary to help,” she added when opening the Girl Guides Association of Federal Territory, Kuala Lumpur’s “Turun Padang” (going to the ground) programme here yesterday.
“When there is a fire, our members will be there. When there are floods, our members will be there and when other countries are going through a tough time, we will lend a helping hand.
“As time goes by, the people will realise the relevance of the Girl Guides in society,” said Rosmah.
Rosmah presented aid totalling RM16,000 to 20 needy young people from the Girl Guides, the Young Men’s Christian Association, Malaysian Association for the Blind, Association for the Mentally Handicapped and SK Brickfields 1.
Present were Raja Puan Muda Perak Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah and Girl Guides Association of Federal Territory, Kuala Lumpur president Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng.
