Villagers want to move into low-cost homes

-

FIFTY residents of Kampung Hulu Pudu, a 100year-old settlement, are hoping that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall will offer them low-cost houses.

Tamil Nesan reported that the 50 families from Kampung Hulu Pudu in Cheras area have been forced to endure hardship as there was no electricity supply and piped water to the village.

One of the residents, S. Ramesh, said about 50 families had been living in the area for the past 100 years.

Some of the families have moved out as they are finding it hard to survive in the village.

“Residents have to depend on well water and they are afraid of going out at night as there is no electricity supply to the house and there are snakes from a nearby abandoned Chinese cemetery.”

He said that recently, one of the residents who suffered a heart attack died after the ambulance lost its way due to the absence of a proper address.

“Most of the residents here submitted their applications for low-cost houses about six years ago but we have not received any reply from the City Hall”.

> Makkal Osai reported that a 45-year-old man, who allegedly murdered a 30-year-old woman and threw her body on a railway track in a dispute over illicit affair in Ariyalur district, was arrested by Chennai police.

Police investigations revealed that Kamaraj, a labourer, was having an affair with Vennila, a widow with two children. He used to meet her during the day and go to work at night for the past six years.

He became angry when Vennila received frequent calls from another man and reprimanded her.

He used a stone to hit her which led to her death.

He threw her body on the railway tracks to make it appear like she committed suicide.
