KUALA LUMPUR: Desperate to evade the police, a 46-year-old suspected robber jumped to his death from the third floor of a hotel in Sri Damansara here.

The man, along with three accomplices, is believed to be involved in more than 10 robberies in the Klang Valley.

City deputy CID chief Asst Comm Khairy Ahrasa said police raided the hotel at about noon on Tuesday following a tip-off that the man was responsible for a house break-in in Taman Taynton View on Dec 31.

“Once police personnel entered the hotel room, the man ran and jumped out of the window.

“He didn’t survive the fall. He had severe head injuries,” he said yesterday.

ACP Khairy said police recovered 11 mobile phones, 11 watches, seven sets of car keys, ATM cards, gold chains and several house break-in tools in the hotel room.

“Initial investigations revealed that the man had a criminal record and was involved in at least 10 robbery and house break-in cases in the Klang Valley.

“The suspect and his accomplices, who are still at large, have been active since last August,” he said.

In an unrelated case, police arrested two men over 20 robberies involving 24-hour convenience stores in the city.

ACP Khairy said the men, both aged 33, were arrested at two houses in Pandan Perdana at about 4.30am on Monday, and weapons and vehicles were seized.

The suspects have been remanded until today.
