KUALA LUMPUR: A cyclist died after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).

Rafizi Hamdan (pic), 37, died on the spot after he was hit by a Proton Saga near Taman Melawati at around 7.50am yesterday.

According to Rafizi’s friend and fellow cyclist Sazali Sulaiman, 45, Rafizi was cycling to Batu 12, Gombak, when he was hit by a speeding Proton Saga.

“He was supposed to meet our cycling group in Gombak, but sadly he succumbed to severe head injuries at the scene,” Sazali said.

He added that they found a licence plate near Rafizi’s body, which is believed to be from the car that hit him.

“It is a tragic loss as Rafizi, a father of two, was a friendly and cheerful man who loved cycling,” Sazali said.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin confirmed the indent, adding that initial investigations showed that the cyclist was hit from the back.

“We have classified the case as reckless driving and are investigating it under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said, urging anyone with information on the accident to contact the nearest police station.

In another case, a motorcyclist died after he was hit by a trailer at Km2.2 of the Besraya Expressway while heading to Cheras.

Selangor police traffic chief Supt Zulkifli Jonit said the victim, identified as R. Tennarasu, 22, died on the spot from multiple injuries.

“Based on initial investigations, Tennarasu lost control of his machine and hit the trailer after he was scraped by a car,” he said yesterday.
