Honouring esteemed graduates
THE Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Micpa) and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) celebrated their candidates and graduates at the Excellence Awards 2018/2019 on Oct 17.
These dynamic individuals deserved the recognition and honour given for either obtaining top scores in various modules or for successfully completing the MicpaCAANZ Programme, a joint professional accounting programme that provides its graduates with a dual qualification from two prestigious bodies from Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
Proud parents, employers and friends were among those present to show their support for all 185 individuals who were recognised for their achievements that night.
Micpa president Dr Veerinderjeet Singh presented the coveted gold medals and awards to the prize winners.
The Micpa-CAANZ Programme celebrated 127 graduates who had completed the exams in Term 3, 2018, Term 4, 2018 and Term 1, 2019 respectively.
They were presented with their examination certificates by Dr Veerinderjeet and Regional Councillor – Asia of CAANZ Datuk Richard Abas.
A total of eight Gold Medals were presented to candidates who obtained top scores in the 2018 examinations (Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3) and Term 1, 2019 examination.

• Tan Pei Ji – Ernst and Young Gold Medal for Audit and Assurance
• How Yi Xin – BDO Gold Medal for Taxation > Term 1, 2019 Examination
• Neo Moon Wei – Datuk Oh Chong Peng Gold Medal for Financial Accounting and Reporting
• Lau Lu Yew – Folks DFK & Co/ Azman Wong Salleh and Co Gold Medal for Management Accounting and Applied Finance
• Koay Shi Ying – PricewaterhouseCoopers Gold Medal for Capstone
The highlight of the night was the Excellence Award for The Most Outstanding CPA Student. This award is bestowed on the best allround CPA student who recently completed the Micpa-CAANZ exams.
The Award for 2018/2019 went to Hafizul Akma Azman, who is currently working with Petronas Bhd.
He enrolled in the Micpa-CAANZ Programme in January 2016 and passed all five modules within three years. He obtained his Micpa membership in April this year.
Micpa also presented awards to top accounting graduates from accredited universities in Malaysia offering the Bachelor of Accountancy qualification. This category entitled The Excellence Awards for Best Accounting Graduates 2018 had the following winners:

The evening ended with many proud supporters celebrating these individuals who have worked hard to attain success, not just academically but as future professionals with a bright career path in accountancy ahead of them.
