THE largest island in Vietnam will soon be easily accessible to Malaysians with new direct flights from AirAsia. The low-cost carrier will fly four times weekly between Kuala Lumpur and Phu Quoc, beginning Nov 2.

AirAsia Malaysia commercial head Spencer Lee said AirAsia is the first airline to launch direct services from KL to Phu Quoc.

“We hope to contribute to the social and economic development of Phu Quoc through the power of connectivity. We look forward to working with the local government to develop Phu Quoc into a world class tourist destination,” he said.

AirAsia passengers can connect seamlessly to Phu Quoc via Kuala Lumpur from 20 cities in 10 countries, namely China, India, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Travellers from any country can also visit Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days, making the destination more accessible.

Phu Quoc offers a slice of paradise for sun worshippers with its 150km-long beautiful coastline. The three main regions in the district are Phu Quoc island, Hon Thom and An Thoi Archipelago.

Phu Quoc is part of the Kien Giang Province which was recognised by Unesco as a World Biosphere Reserve in 2006.

Those seeking a tropical vacation will have plenty to love in the beautiful beaches in Phu Quoc that offer stunning views of the sunset and crystal clear waters to cool off in. The popular ones include Long Beach, Ong Lang Beach, Ganh Dau Beach and Starfish Beach.

Among the must-do activities include island exploration; visiting the fishing village Ham Ninh; and savouring fresh seafood and local Vietnamese bites at the Dinh Cau Night Market. Elsewhere, Suoi Tranh Waterfall is surrounded by greeneries, caves and rock pools.

Phu Quoc marks AirAsia Malaysia’s 59th unique route and the fifth route into Vietnam. The carrier also flies to four other destinations in Vietnam from Malaysia: Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi and Nha Trang. – Chester Chin
