Nurturing competitive graduates
ENGINEERING is a challenging field of study as students need to possess logical and critical thinking skills that cannot be obtained from textbooks.
First City University College (First City UC) cultivates these skills by encouraging students to participate in activities such as the E-Genting Programming Competition and E-Genting Bug Hunt.
These events are organised annually by E-Genting to recruit new talents for its Research and Development Department.
The competitions are also supported by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation Sdn Bhd.
For the past few years, First City UC software engineering students have actively participated in these competitions.
The E-Genting Bug Hunt challenges students to design and document testing procedures that meet software requirements specifications.
The E-Genting Programming Competition serves as a platform for students to showcase their programming talent.
In 2017, four First City UC students won awards in the E-Genting Bug Hunt – Joseph Ong Wai Kah won first prize and Pang Hao Jie won third prize, while Siah Kah Chun and Jasvina Mae earned distinction awards.
Siah also won a distinction award in the E-Genting Programming Competition.
The 2017 competition was the 15th in its series.
“Throughout the competition, I used all the skills and knowledge gained from my studies in First City UC,” said Ong.
The dean of First City UC’s Faculty of Engineering and Computing, Dr Christine Lee, said, “We encourage students to participate in events like the E-Genting Competition so that they can exert the skills they learn in their classes to ensure that they remain outstanding and competitive.”
First City UC students start out with the Foundation in Engineering, Science and Technology programme, which then leads to pathways in engineering, computing or science.
Students will be presented with more options when they progress to a bachelor’s degree with a choice of Bachelor of Information Technology (Networking and Security) (Hons), Bachelor of Information Technology (Mobile Computing) (Hons), Bachelor of Electronic Engineering with Honours, Bachelor of Software Engineering (Hons), Bachelor of Computer Science (Intelligent Systems) (Hons), Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons) in Business Management.
At the Faculty of Engineering and Computing, teaching and learning is delivered by a team of dedicated qualified lecturers equipped with a range of teaching and commercial industry experience.
With the use of advanced software tools and commercial products in its state-of-the-art engineering and computing laboratories such as the Microprocessor and Electronic CAD, Electronic Design Automation Laboratory, Digital Power and Control Laboratory, Mechatronics Laboratory, E-Info Lab, Multimedia Laboratory Macintosh Laboratory and CAD Laboratory, students can experiment and develop their practical skills under the guidance of First City UC’s attentive lecturers and tutors.
Mapping an education pathway
First City UC students begin their tertiary journey after comprehensively mapping their education pathway with guidance from the institute’s experienced counselling team and lecturers.
First City UC facilitates this opportunity by conducting Open Days on both weekends and weekdays at its modern campus in Bandar Utama.
To extend this much sought-after counselling service, First City UC will be holding its first Education Fair at 1 Utama Shopping Centre at Level 2, Oval, New Wing, near Starship Galactica on April 14 and 15.
