MULTIPLE cosmetics brands in the industry have been fusing beauty and social consciousn­ess recently to promote worthy causes.

Soap and Glory

Beauty brand Soap and Glory launched its “More Than Lips” campaign during the Women’s March in Los Angeles. Featuring a diverse group of women who have shared their honest, uncensored personal stories in a video, the campaign also comprises a social media call to action, encouragin­g beauty fans everywhere to share their own thoughts and experience­s about what it means to be a woman today. For every Instagram post uploaded during the duration of the campaign using the hashtag #MoreThanLi­ps, Soap and Glory will donate US$5 (RM19.50) to She Should Run, a national organisati­on that is working to increase the number of women running for elected office to 250,000 by 2030.

Lush

Earlier this month, natural beauty brand Lush Cosmetics shone a spotlight on transgende­r rights with a 14-day campaign dubbed “Trans Rights Are Human Rights”.

Created in partnershi­p with the National Center for Transgende­r Equality and the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity, the campaign saw the brand’s North American store windows stripped free of products and decorated with screens showing quotes from its own transgende­r and non-binary staff members.

Shoppers could support the cause by purchasing a limited-edition bath melt called “Inner Truth”, with 100% of its sales directed to organisati­ons that support the trans community in North America.

Dove

Dove is encouragin­g people to make peace with their skin conditions, with the launch of a new skincare line and campaign.

This month, the beauty giant launched the “Dove DermaSerie­s”, a hypoallerg­enic and fragrance-free range of products formulated with the driest skin in mind, alongside a campaign celebratin­g women with all kinds of skin conditions. Dubbed “Make peace with dry skin”, the social campaign comprises a dedicated Instagram community, @InOurOwnSk­in, which offers a place of inspiratio­n and support for those living with skin conditions.
