Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season Five

THE new season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine starts off on a sombre note. After getting framed by a corrupt cop in the previous season, detectives Jake Peralta (Adam Samberg) and Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) are in jail.

We see Jake trying his best to cope with his new life by ... being in denial about how he feels. Rosa on the other hand, sends her superiors Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) and Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) on a series of impossible task. The most difficult and funniest one is when Holt spends six hours on the phone talking to an operator just to cancel Rosa’s cable TV plan. The usually calm Captain really loses his cool on that one.

Eventually, the Captain comes to Jake and Rosa’s rescue when he makes a secret deal with a ruthless gangster. Later on in the season, we’ll see what happens when Holt has to keep his end of the bargain.

Despite raising the stakes on serious subjects, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is never short of hilarious and surprising moments. This year’s brilliant Halloween episode – usually, Jake gets the precinct to join his game where they attempt to prove who is the best detective – has the perfect amount of humour, twists and suspense.

It’s amazing how this show keeps it fresh every time. With all the laughs, it’s almost easy to forget that Holt is harbouring a big, potentially devastating secret from his team.
