Cayman is race-ready
SIME Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) has previewed the race-ready Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport that closes the gap between the road legal sports cars and the GT3 Cup, which used to be the entry-level Porsche race car.
Base price of the Cayman GT4 Clubsport is 111,000 euros (RM523,000) but the example unveiled costs 175,000 euros (RM824,000) as it comes fitted with accessories and racing kit.
Powered by a 385PS 3.8-litre flatsix engine, the car also has Porsche’s double clutch transmission with shift paddles and a mechanical rear-axle locking differential.
The spring-strut front suspension is taken from the 911 GT3 Cup, which competes in Porsche’s 20 onemake championships.
Brakes are 380mm steel discs. The car weighs at just 1,300kg and is delivered ex-works with a welded-in safety cage, a racing bucket seat and a six-point harness.
“With a lower driving requirement and reduced maintenance costs, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport receives popularity among amateur, young and gentleman drivers, ” said SDAP CEO Arnt Bayer.
“With the 2017 Blancpain GT Asia series now offering a GT4-category, customers have the opportunity to participate in this series within Asia,” said Earl Bamber, Porsche Works Driver and 2015 24-Hours Le Mans winner who was at the event.
In other developments, SDAP said the new Panamera announced last year would arrive in Malaysia in March, followed shortly by the 718 Cayman.
This year, buyers of new Porsche cars will get free access to the “Introduction to Porsche” driving programme at the Sepang International Circuit.
They will be mentored by Porsche instructors to improve their driving skills in their own Porsche.
