Temple’s Mooncake Festival celebration an interfaith affair, says organiser
KAPIT: The three-day Mooncake Festival hosted by Tai Pek Kong Hock Leong Ten Temple here was an interfaith affair as local folks from different religious backgrounds joined in the fun.
The temple’s board of management chairman Ma Tian Ho said the involvement of temple devotees and those of different faiths demonstrated the spirit of mutual respect for each other’s religious beliefs.
“Kapit is truly a racial melting pot whereby people of different races and religions can come together to celebrate this festival. In fact, Dayak children were among those taking part in the lion dance performances,” he said at the closing of the festival celebration on Sunday.
Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, officiated at the ceremony that took place at the temple compound.
Ma also said during the twoyear height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the temple had not conducted any social activity; instead, it focused on assisting those most impacted by the pandemic.
“Throughout the two years, the temple had organised the delivery of food packages to the poor and needy folks. The funds were raised from temple followers and used to buy rice and other daily necessities to help lessen the burden of the less-fortunate groups,” he added.
Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, who is a deputy minister in the Premier’s Department, was among those who attended the closing ceremony, and he later announced a grant of RM15,000 from his Minor Rural Project grant for the temple to carry out its activities.
