Senior citizen creates replicas from used materials to enliven National Month celebration
IPOH: In joining other Malaysians to celebrate National Month, a senior citizen took the initiative to create various replicas from used materials to express his patriotism and love for the country.
Tazar Alang Ibrahim, 62, utilises used tyres, iron and plastics to build replicas of tanks, cannons and helicopters and places them near his stall, which is decorated with the Jalur Gemilang.
The unique replicas usually catch the attention of passersby, who will then make a stop at the open area near the Muhammadiah Mosque, Tasek, to take photos and share them on their social media accounts.
According to Tazar, a parttime nasi lemak seller, he felt compelled to use the discarded materials to create replicas to enliven the National Month celebration because recycling is almost forgotten in this era of technological development.
“I have been doing this since 1998 because I enjoy seeing the vibrant colours of the Jalur Gemilang in each of my creations. I used hundreds of Malaysian flags and various discarded items to create these replicas.
“This year, I produced replicas of tanks, cannons and helicopters using my own money and some discarded materials such as old tyres, plastics and iron,” he told Bernama.
The father of two said he would try to finish and decorate his creations in the first week of August to be displayed to visitors and the local community.
“Once completed, I will take pictures and upload them on Facebook to create excitement for National Day.
“Some gave positive comments and some even came from Melaka and Penang to see the replicas,” he said.
Tazar also expressed hope that the younger generation would be able to show their patriotic spirit not only during National Month but also in their daily lives by maintaining good relations between the various races in Malaysians. — Bernama
