Elderly man jailed for punching constructi­on site supervisor

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced an elderly man to two months in jail for punching a constructi­on site supervisor in the face.

Rajiee Hassan, 66, pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi, who ordered the jail sentence to take effect from yesterday.

The unemployed accused was charged with causing grievous hurt by punching the 50-year-old victim in the face and fracturing his nose.

The act was committed at around 10.30am on March 16 at a project site in Jalan Tanjung Bako here.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused was unhappy that his son, who works for the victim, was told do his job properly and to come early to work.

It was understood that the victim had given the advice to Rajiee’s son so that the latter’s employment could be confirmed and he would not be let go due to disciplina­ry problems.

Meanwhile, in a separate Magistrate’s Court, a man was fined RM2,700 in default three months in jail for threatenin­g to kill his wife.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the sentence after the accused, Tan Kok Peng, 42, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonme­nt for up to two years or a fine or both.

According to the facts of the case, the accused uttered the threat in Mandarin after his wife did not give him any money to allegedly buy drugs.

He committed the act at their house in Jalan Ellis here at around 2.15pm on April 1, and was arrested the next day after his wife lodged a police report against him.

The prosecutio­n was conducted separately by Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin and Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad.
