Fitness competitio­n aims to raise awareness on healthy lifestyle

KUCHING: Sweat Engine were crowned the men’s champions of the Sport Sarawak Fitfest at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre recently.

The runners-up were Tanke Tanke while Recharge finished third.

In the women’s category, Haminamina triumphed over Fish Belly and Holy Molly.

The champions received RM300 while runners-up and second runners-up received RM200 and RM100 respective­ly.

The fitness competitio­n coorganise­d by Sport Sarawak and Kuching Fitness Associatio­n was aimed at raising the awareness of the importance of being active and healthy especially during the post pandemic time.

It attracted 100 participan­ts. Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee said fitness industry were amongst the hardest hit by the pandemic in the country.

“We are now moving into the endemic phase of the Covid-19 and it is important that we move forward in a positive manner. This event is to help all of the gyms bounce back from the pandemic. It is also to encourage people to take their health and fitness more seriously especially during these time,” he said.

Sport Sarawak FitFest was a team of two competitio­ns where the participan­ts went through three specific workouts.

In the first workout, the teams had to complete as many rounds as possible in 10 minutes of five burpees over box and 10 dumbbell ground to overhead.

For Workout 2, they had to do 100 goblet squats, 100 sit-ups and 100 dumbbell shoulder to overhead, and the fastest team to complete the above is deemed the winner.

Workout 3 meanwhile involved rowing and the team with the most distance in 10 minutes wins the challenge.
