Unifor announces new SOPs for funerals

-

KUCHING: All village security and development committees (JKKKs) in Sarawak are obligated to report funerals at private residences in villages and longhouses to the nearest police station or district office, says the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).

Unifor announced this yesterday in its latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) under Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

Funerals and wakes could only be attended by close family members with no more than 30 individuals at any one time depending on the venue capacity, with physical distancing of 1m from one person to another.

Burials at cemeteries are also limited to maximum of 30 individuals, including close family members.

Children aged 12 and below, non-vaccinated individuals and those in high-risk groups are not encouraged to attend any funeral ceremony.

Those who show Covid-19 symptoms such as fever, cough and with body temperature exceeding 37.5°C are prohibited from attending any funeral.

During funerals, tablewares such as plates, bowls, spoons and forks must not be shared.

Go for packed food instead. Activities such as ‘holo’ and ‘daun terup’ must not be allowed.

JKKKs must come up with My Sejahtera QR code or attendance logbook for those attending the funeral and ensure strict compliance with the SOP including the checking of body temperature, wearing of face masks, sanitising hands regularly and avoiding close contacts.

There must be only one entry and one exit points, with signs clearly provided.
