Aidiladha sacrificia­l rites in Labuan conducted in full compliance with standard operating procedure – Police

LABUAN: Aidiladha sacrificia­l rites were conducted at eight permitted open spaces here yesterday, in full compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set.

Labuan police chief Supt Ahmad Jawila said monitoring would be conducted at the open spaces that had been approved by the Federal Territory of Labuan Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) till evening.

“Checks conducted by the police together with Jawi enforcemen­t and Labuan Corporatio­n personnel found that the organisers that have been given the special permission to conduct the sacrificia­l rites comply with the SOP,” he told Bernama.

Ahmad said 10 teams comprising 30 policemen and 10 People’s Volunteer Corps Department (Rela) personnel were dispatched to monitor the sacrificia­l rites conducted at the eight slaughteri­ng and cuttingup areas.

On Monday, Bernama reported that Labuan Jawi had given special permission to three government agencies and four non-government­al organisati­ons (NGOs) to conduct the animal sacrifice ritual in conjunctio­n with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebratio­n in Labuan yesterday.

Its senior principal assistant director Sharidah Zainal Abidin said the ‘korban’ ritual must be carried out with strict adherence to the SOP set at eight open spaces that had been approved.

These include four Fire and Rescue station grounds, Labuan police station, Customs Housing Complex in Bukit Kuda, Kampung Sungai Bedaun Community Hall and the Kampung Lajau open space, next to Masjid Sultan Muhammad V which involve the NGOs.

Meanwhile, the three government agencies given special permission to conduct the korban are the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police and Royal Customs Department.

The NGOs involved were Masjid Nurul Iman Kampung Sungai Bedaun Committee, Kelab Kebajikan dan Rekreasi Kakitangan UMSKAL, Aman Palestine Berhad and Persatuan Badan Kebajikan Pejabat Mufti. — Bernama
