Now not the time for political crisis — Masing

-

KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing said the country should not be dragged into another political crisis, especially at a time when the battle against Covid-19 is not won yet.

He lamented that power struggle, especially within the government of the day, should not happen in the middle of the war.

“In traditional warfare the opposing armies shot each other.

“However, in fighting coronavirus, Malaysia has different strategy. We shot our comrades first!

“So whoever remained standing or alive then shot coronavirus,” he said in reacting to Umno’s decision to withdraw its support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) believed that the best strategy to fight this deadly Covid-19 pandemic is for everyone to stand together and fight as one.

“Once we have defeated our enemy (Covid-19) together, then we turn our guns on each other, if we must,” he said.

He insisted that shooting one’s own comrade should not happen now because the people are still at war with Covid-19.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi early yesterday said the party’s Supreme Council had decided to revoke the party’s support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government with immediate effect.

Ahmad Zahid also called on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down from his post to allow for the appointment of an interim prime minister who will focus on the people’s wellbeing, address the Covid-19 pandemic and ensure that the vaccination process is expedited.

He added that Umno does not support any effort in naming Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as a candidate for prime minister, nor will it support any DAP/PH-led government.
